Homemade Bread

Freshly baked bread with a golden crust and soft interior. Nothing compares to the aroma of homemade bread!

Ingredients

  • 4 cups (500 g) all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp sugar
  • 1 packet (7 g) active dry yeast
  • 1¼ cups (300 ml) warm water
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or melted butter

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast: Mix warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for 10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Combine ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour and salt. Add yeast mixture and oil.
  3. Knead dough: Knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. First rise: Let the dough rise for 1 hour, covered, until doubled in size.
  5. Shape and rest: Shape into a loaf or rolls and let rest for 30 minutes.
  6. Bake: Bake at 390°F (200°C) for 25–30 minutes, until golden brown.
  7. Cool: Cool before slicing.

Variations

  • Add 3 tbsp sugar + 1 tsp vanilla for sweet bread.
  • Replace half the flour with whole wheat for healthier bread.
  • Mix in seeds or herbs for extra flavor.

Baker's Tip: For a crispier crust, place a pan of water in the oven while baking. The steam will help create a beautiful, crunchy exterior.
